Meet this little guy. He's been standing at attention since approximately 1880, dressed in his finest sailor suit, hat slightly askew, looking like he's about to report for duty on a very elegant ship. He has survived over 140 years without complaint, which is more than can be said for most of us on a Monday.

This is a classic example of German bisque porcelain — the unglazed, matte finish that gives these Victorian-era figurines their distinctive soft, almost sculptural quality. The hand-painted pastel details (that powder blue suit, the pink bow, the golden sash) are beautifully preserved. The scrollwork base is a hallmark of the period. No maker's mark, which is entirely typical for this type of German export figurine from the late 19th century.

The base shows honest wear consistent with 140+ years of life — a few scuffs and traces of age that only add to the charm. This is not a reproduction. This is the real thing.

  • Material: Bisque (unglazed) porcelain
  • Origin: Germany
  • Estimated age: c.1880 (antique)
  • Height: 22 cm
  • Weight: 220g
  • Condition: very good antique condition; base shows age-related wear consistent with period
  • No maker's mark (typical for German export bisque of this era)

WARNING: This sailor boy has been standing guard for over a century and takes his post very seriously. Maison de L'oro accepts no responsibility for the inexplicable urge to salute him every time you walk past.
