Antique Mosel Wine Glass with Engraved Grapevine, circa 1930

If this glass could talk, it'd probably tell you about a very pleasant Sunday afternoon in the Mosel valley, circa 1932, with a Riesling that nobody bothered to write down and a view that everyone pretended not to cry about. We can't offer you the view. But we can offer you the glass.

This antique Mosel-style wine glass features all-over wheel-engraved grapevine decoration — lush, sprawling vine leaves, plump bunches of grapes, and delicate tendrils that curl around the bowl with the confidence of someone who's been doing this since the 1920s. The bowl is wide and generously proportioned, sitting on a lovely faceted ball knop stem with a broad, flat foot. That foot, by the way, is also engraved. Because obviously.

The warm, very slightly yellowish tint of the glass is typical of quality Continental glassware from this period, and the engraving has that soft, velvety depth that only comes from wheel-cutting rather than acid etching. In short: this is the real thing. Two more available if you want to make it a proper affair.
