Meet the Burleigh ‘Avon’ wall plate — a mid-century English ironstone charger from Burgess & Leigh of Burslem, Staffordshire, one of the great names in British ceramics. It's been hanging on walls and charming rooms since approximately 1950, and it has absolutely no intention of stopping.

The decoration is a hand-applied polychrome floral design featuring loose bouquets of blue campanula (bellflower) with green foliage, scattered across a warm cream-white ground. Between the floral clusters, delicate gold scrollwork and feather motifs add a touch of gilded elegance without overdoing it — because Burleigh knew restraint. The border is a classic scalloped gadroon rim with a fine gold line, and the body has the satisfying weight and slight translucency of proper Alpine White Ironstone.

The reverse bears the full Burleigh backstamp: "AVON / Burleigh / Burgess & Sons / England / Alpine White / Ironstone" — everything you need to know, printed in brown on white. It also comes with its original wire plate hanger, ready to go straight onto your wall.
