If porcelain had a personality contest, this Dresden bowl would win on charm alone. Made in Germany in the 1960s, it features the kind of reticulated (that's "pierced lattice" for those of us who didn't study ceramics) border that requires a steady hand, a sharp tool, and a level of patience most of us abandoned somewhere around age seven.
The hand-painted floral decoration is the real showstopper: a lush bouquet of roses in pink, amber and blue at the centre, with smaller floral sprays tucked into the scalloped panels around the rim — all outlined in gold. It's the sort of thing your grandmother would have kept in a glass cabinet and only brought out for very important guests. You can do whatever you like with it.
