Douwe Egberts knew it back in the 1950s: if you're going to serve tea, you might as well do it properly. So they commissioned this elegant silver-plated tea set from H. Hooijkaas of Schoonhoven — the silver city of the Netherlands, where generations of the country's finest silversmiths worked their craft. This is not a trinket. This is the real thing.
The set is executed in the clean, confident Paul Revere style — cylindrical forms, straight lines, no fuss. Exactly the kind of design that felt modern in the 1950s and looks timeless now. The silver plating is in good condition and the whole set has that warm, lived-in patina that only genuine silverwork develops over decades. It glows rather than shines, which is exactly as it should be.
A complete 7-piece set, including the original oval tray — everything you need for a tea moment that is just a little more ceremonious than usual. The sugar tongs are a particularly lovely touch: slim, elegant, and stamped with the Hooijkaas maker's mark. Or simply a beautiful display piece for a sideboard, as a tribute to Dutch silversmithing and the great tea and coffee tradition of Douwe Egberts.
