Nobody asked this jar to go this hard. And yet here we are.
This rotund little Italian ginger jar from the 1950s–60s has decided that subtlety is for other people. On a deep cobalt blue luster ground that shifts between midnight blue, teal, and a hint of aubergine (depending on the light and your mood), a full-sized peacock struts through a composition of pink peonies, cherry blossom, and assorted flora — rendered in gold, pink, white, and green with the kind of detail that makes you wonder if the painter had a magnifying glass or just extremely good eyesight and a lot of patience.
The domed lid is topped with a gold acorn finial that catches the light like a tiny trophy. The base carries the original paper label: FINE COBALT in gold on black — which is both a product description and, honestly, a lifestyle statement. The top view of the lid reveals a perfect cobalt dome with a gold ring around the finial socket — the kind of detail that rewards people who pick things up and look at them properly.
