Some vases hold flowers. This one holds the entire room hostage with its sheer presence. Meet the Josef Inwald Barolac winged vase — one of the most recognisable and collectible Art Deco glass designs ever made, and yes, this one is the real deal.
Josef Inwald was a Bohemian glass manufacturer who, under the Barolac trade name, produced some of the most dramatic pressed glass designs of the 1930s. This winged vase is their signature piece: three sweeping wing-shaped panels rising from a square stepped base, with a textured bark-like surface that catches light from every angle. The colour? A deep, luminous emerald green that practically glows.
Turn it upside down and you'll find the characteristic spiral pattern on the base — a hallmark of Barolac production and a handy authentication detail for the collectors among you. At 1.3 kg, this is a substantial piece of glass with serious presence.
