Limoges Castel French Porcelain Floral Dish, 1950s

If you've ever looked at a trinket dish and thought "nice, but could it be more French?" — here you go. This little Limoges square dish does not do things by halves. It comes with a full central bouquet of hand-painted roses, anemones and wildflowers, a sweeping border of deep bordeaux acanthus scrolls with gold highlights, and a gently undulating edge that manages to look both casual and very deliberately elegant at the same time.

Made by Porcelaine Limoges Castel in the 1950s, this small square dish is the kind of thing that earns its place on a dressing table, beside a lamp, or anywhere else that deserves a quiet touch of French mid-century charm. It's signed on the interior near the bouquet — the mark of a hand that clearly took pride in the work — and carries both the Limoges Castel stamp and the Limoges France mark on the base.
