Paragon Tree of Kashmir Fine Bone China Dessert Plate – c.1960

This is the full dessert plate version of Paragon’s most celebrated pattern — larger, richer and even more commanding than its trinket tray sibling. Paragon Fine Bone China, Made in England, circa 1960, with the Royal Warrant backstamp ‘By Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen, China Potters’. The Queen approved this pattern. Twice, apparently, because this is the second one we’ve seen today.

The Tree of Kashmir pattern fills this plate with extraordinary confidence: a towering Chinoiserie floral composition erupts from a gilded urn at the centre — deep crimson peonies, full purple blooms, yellow flowers and trailing green foliage in every direction. Around it, a double border of delicate sage-green latticework and gold frames the central medallion. On the wide embossed scalloped rim, scattered floral sprigs and inky grey Chinoiserie scroll motifs are placed with careful asymmetry, and the entire rim is edged in gold. It is, as ever, a lot. In the very best way.

At 11.5 cm and a solid 115 grams, this is a plate with presence and purpose. Display it, use it, collect it — the Tree of Kashmir doesn’t mind. It just looks magnificent regardless.
