Shelley England Floral Shell-Shaped Trinket Tray – c.1930

Let's talk about provenance. This is a Shelley England piece — one of Britain's most celebrated fine bone china makers, and a name that collectors actually get excited about. Produced around 1930, this shell-shaped trinket tray is hand-painted with a riot of orange poppies, blue cornflowers, red berries and trailing greenery on a creamy white ground, all framed by a scalloped edge with a red rim and the most satisfying pale sage green border you've ever seen.

The ribbed shell form gives it wonderful tactile texture — you can feel every ridge. It's the kind of piece that sits on your dressing table or kitchen shelf and makes everything around it look slightly less interesting by comparison. The backstamp on the base reads "The New China, Shelley, England" — which dates it to the early 1930s Shelley era, right when they were doing their most characterful work.

At 11.5 x 11 cm it's the perfect size for rings, trinkets, a single olive, or just looking beautiful doing nothing at all.
