If pressed glass had a personality contest, the Sowerby "Flung" dish would win on drama alone. Those three sweeping wings look like they were caught mid-flight and frozen in glass — which, honestly, is exactly the kind of energy a sideboard or coffee table needs.
Sowerby was one of Britain's most celebrated pressed glass manufacturers, based in Gateshead, and their Art Deco pieces from the 1930s are among the most sought-after by collectors today. The "Flung" pattern — named for its dynamic, thrown appearance — is one of their most iconic designs: three curved wing-shaped panels rising from a square stepped base, with a beautifully swirling interior texture that catches light like a kaleidoscope.
This example is in top condition — no chips, no cracks, no drama (well, except the good kind). The "Made in England" mark is clearly visible on the wing, confirming its authenticity. The colour is a fresh, clear green with just enough tint to glow beautifully in natural light.
