Vintage Ceramic Dove Salt & Pepper Set on Heart Dish – c.1960

Two little white ceramic doves sitting on a heart-shaped dish, completely unbothered by the world around them. This is a proper 1960s salt and pepper set — 3 pieces total: one plump seated dove (salt, 4 holes on top, clearly the responsible one), one elegant dove with raised wing (pepper, single hole, the dramatic one), and a charming irregular heart-shaped tray to keep them all together like the family they are.

The glaze is that warm creamy white you only get from mid-century ceramics — not stark white, not beige, just right. Both birds have a little gold-painted beak that catches the light and makes them look like they're perpetually about to say something important. Each bird lifts off the tray for filling from the base. Very civilised.

At 410 grams combined, this is a set with weight and presence. It doesn't slide around. It sits on your table and commands respect. As it should — it's been doing this since 1960.
