A little bouquet in the middle, more flowers around the edge, and a yellow border keeping everyone in line. This Royal Doulton plate has clearly organised the seating plan. We suspect it would also have opinions about your table manners.
Dating to circa 1925, it combines pink and yellow floral decoration, dark green leaves and a green-edged, gently shaped rim. The yellow scalloped-pattern band adds just enough fuss. Not wedding-cake levels of fuss. More “I put the good tablecloth out because I felt like it.” A philosophy we can get behind.
Its circa-1925 date places it in the interwar years, a whole century before today's gallery walls and carefully arranged shelf photographs. We rather enjoy giving something from that time a spot among modern belongings. It has earned the right to look mildly unimpressed by your charging cables.
At 21.5 cm across, it is a lovely candidate for a living-room wall display or a dresser. The reverse carries the Royal Doulton, Made in England mark, shown in the photographs alongside the metal spring plate hanger.
One important little detail: there is a small original firing flaw at the rim, shown in the close-up. This is a manufacturing imperfection, not later damage. It arrived in the world that way. Honestly, so did most of our more interesting personality traits.
