WWII British Military Bowl – Adams 1942, Found in Malta

This is not just a bowl. This is a bowl that has seen things. Stamped with G VI R (Georgius VI Rex — King George VI) and made by William Adams & Sons of Staffordshire, England in 1942, this is genuine British military-issue ironstone, produced at the height of World War II.

Found in Malta — the island that held out against relentless Axis bombardment and was awarded the George Cross in 1942, the same year this bowl was made — it was almost certainly used by British forces stationed here during the Siege of Malta. Whether it fed a Royal Navy sailor, an RAF pilot, or a soldier from the British garrison, we'll never know. But it survived. And now it's here.

The bowl is a classic military-issue design: thick, sturdy, no-nonsense white ironstone with a simple rolled rim. Exactly what you'd want when someone is dropping bombs on your island and you still need to eat your porridge.
